Krabi province is located on Thailand’s southern east coast and is a popular destination for both tourists and locals. It’s famous for its dramatic limestone cliffs, pristine beaches, and over 150 islands — including the well-known Koh Phi Phi and Koh Lanta.
Krabi also boasts stunning marine national parks like Hat Noppharat Thara (home to Phi Phi Islands) and Mo Koh Lanta National Park, offering world-class snorkeling and diving experiences.

Since Koh Lanta and Koh Phi Phi are destinations on their own and deserve a minimum of 3-4 days of stay, we will focus on the part of Krabi that is on the mainland.
Krabi mainland can be simply divided into three most popular locations:
KRABI TOWN
Krabi Town is the capital and administrative center of Krabi province, located about 30 minutes from Krabi Airport. It’s a practical spot for 1–2 nights, mainly as a transit location for early flights or late arrivals.
While Krabi Town has no beaches worth visiting, it offers a small market, shops, restaurants, and several nearby attractions like:
Tiger Cave Temple
White Temple (Wat Khew)
Hot Springs
Accommodation here tends to be affordable boutique hotels rather than luxury resorts, making it a budget-friendly base.

AONANG
Aonang is the more developed, tourist-friendly part of Krabi with plenty of hotels, resorts, and infrastructure. While the town itself isn’t breathtaking, it serves as a convenient base for exploring the surrounding area. I recommend staying 2–3 days, depending on how much you want to see nearby.
The main Aonang Beach and Nophara Thara Beach are more “town” beaches—you can swim, but don’t expect pristine white sand or crystal-clear water. For stunning beaches, head west to Railay Beach by taxi boat.
Accommodation options in Aonang cover everything from luxury resorts to budget hostels, villas, and bungalows.

RAILAY
Railay is a peninsula located between Krabi and Aonang, accessible only by boat. Separated from the mainland by stunning limestone cliffs and jungle, Railay offers cleaner seas and some of the most beautiful beaches in the area. If you want that “island feel” and beach paradise, Railay is the perfect spot in Krabi.
However, if you plan on doing many excursions or mainland activities, Railay might not be ideal. You’ll need to take taxi boats to Aonang or Ao Nammao pier, which can be time-consuming and add extra costs.
Accommodation on Railay is more limited and generally pricier compared to Aonang or Krabi Town. While there are budget options, the quality won’t always match what you find in the more developed areas.
For a quieter, less touristy vibe, check out Tonsai Beach — about a 30-minute walk from the main Railay area, accessible by foot or taxi boat.
