Kayaking to Monkey Beach

1 Rent a Sea Kayak

There is some awesome kayaking on the island. You can rent a kayak on Loh Dalum Beach and kayak to Monkey Beach which is on the left side of the bay or Nui Bay.
Bring with you your snorkels as there is some very good snorkeling and swimming in both places.

It takes around 25 minutes to Monkey Beach and 45 minutes to Nui Bay. Make sure not to bring any food on the Monkey Beach and strap your bag to the kayak or you’ll be fighting off monkeys for the rest of the day.

Some of the best views on the island can be found from the top of the Phi Phi Viewpoint. It takes around 30 minutes to get up there and there are 3 different viewpoints.
Best to head out for sunrise around 6am if you want to be first one there. Sunsets from here are amazing just expect lot of people at that time.

3 Scuba Dive with Sharks and Turtles

Some of the best activities you can experience in Phi Phi island take place underwater. There are some beautiful coral formations, huge schools of fish and sea turtles with reef sharks are no rarity here.
You don’t have to have any experience to enjoy scuba diving here. There is a half day course for total beginners and if you are a pro then you can also enjoy some wreck diving.

4 Enjoy a Day on Long Beach

Long Beach is a beautiful beach for relaxing and swimming and also a good spot for some snorkeling and shark spotting.
In front of The Beach Resort hotel is a rock formation called Shark Point, you can snorkel here off the beach and try your luck spotting black tip reef sharks which cruise around the rocks.

To get to Long Beach follow the coastline trail from the town, it takes around 30 minutes to walk. Or rent a long tail boat taxi from the pier. It costs 100THB per person if you are more 3 people, or 150THB if you are a couple.

If you like tattoos or always wanted one but never had the courage then Phi Phi is the place to make it happen.
The prices for tattoos start from 1,500THB for smaller tattoos or symbols and the best thing about the bamboo tattoo is that you can stay in the sun or go swimming the next day, unlike machine tattoos.

7 Visit Bamboo Island

Probably the clearest water around Phi Phi island and the whitest sand can be found on Bamboo Island.

Unless you are on a tight backpackers budget you have to visit the island while in Phi Phi. The island is a national marine park so make sure you bring 400THB for the entry unless you book a tour which has the park fees already included.

You can get here only by boat, it takes around 15 minutes by speedboat and 45 minutes by long tail boat.
Best way to come here is to book a private boat so you can stay as long as you want or join one day trip tour which includes Bamboo Island in its program.

8 Swim with Bioluminescent Plankton

After the sunset, there are places on the island where you can experience the night swimming with bioluminescent plankton.
The bioluminescent plankton is a small organism which lives in the water and when you move your hands and disturb it, it glows around you. It’s best to see it in the open water as you need a complete darkness to see the glow.
You can rent a private boat or book a tour which includes the night swimming experience.

Each night around 9pm the beach lights up with the famous Koh Phi Phi fire show. You can come and watch the fire dancers perform some amazing juggling and spinning skills. The best bars to watch the fire show are Slinkys and Stones Bar. There is no entry to be paid, just buy a drink and enjoy the show.

All the bars in Loh Dalum Bay have their own fire show or if you prefer a more chilled atmosphere you can also check out Carlitos Bar in Tonsai Bay (next to police station).
